Camyuva is one of Kemer's settlements, close to the coastal hotel belt.

When recession is noticed the first question is usually whether surgery is needed. This page explains how that decision is made, because not every recession needs a graft, and a graft placed without the groundwork does not last.

The order is simple: find what caused the recession, remove that cause, then decide whether the lost tissue should be covered. For patients visiting the area we aim to complete as much as possible in one visit.

Deciding on a Gum Graft

Surgery is not a starting point but the last step of a prepared process.

Which recession needs a graft

The decision rests on four points: documented progression over time; sensitivity of the exposed root that does not settle with preventive measures; loss of appearance in the smile zone, where the tooth looks longer and the root shows darker; and the quality of the remaining gum, since too little thick attached tissue leaves the area unprotected. If none of these apply, the recession is usually monitored with corrected brushing.

What must be resolved before grafting

  • Hard, horizontal brushing — the commonest cause
  • Hard-bristled brushes and abrasive pastes
  • Full resolution of gum inflammation and calculus
  • Excess load on that tooth and night-time clenching
  • Orthodontic assessment if the tooth sits outside the bone
  • A lip or tongue frenulum pulling on the gum
  • Smoking, which impairs healing and graft attachment

How a connective tissue graft is done and what to expect

A thin strip of connective tissue is taken from inside the palate and placed over the exposed root beneath the adjacent gum, which is then advanced over it and sutured, under local anaesthesia. In the first days the area must not be brushed or chewed on, and the lip should not be pulled to inspect it. How much root can be covered depends on the bone and gum level between the teeth: with intact papillae most of the root can be covered, otherwise the aim is thicker tissue and a halt to progression.

Getting Here, Booking and Emergencies from Camyuva

Route, booking and emergency arrangements for patients from Camyuva.

Getting here from Camyuva

Çamyuva lies in the Kemer district of Antalya; Kemer is a coastal tourism district, about 43 kilometres from the clinic. We also see patients from neighbouring areas that share the route from Camyuva, such as Arslanbucak, Ovacık, Göynük, Yeni. You can ask for the location on WhatsApp when travelling from Camyuva.

Appointments for Camyuva

If you say you are coming from Çamyuva when you book, procedures are combined and examination, radiographs and treatment are usually completed the same day. As with patients from Kemer generally, appointments for families from Camyuva can be scheduled consecutively.

Emergencies from Camyuva

Coming from Çamyuva at night is quicker than by day once the roads clear; call as you set out and you will receive first-aid guidance on the phone. For patients coming from Dental Clinic in Camyuva, the clinic is open 24/7 and in an emergency the order is set by severity rather than arrival time. For spreading facial swelling, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or toothache with fever, go to the nearest emergency department.

What a Bone Graft Is and When It Is Needed

A graft is not a filler put in place of missing bone; it is a scaffold that lets the body build its own. Over time it is largely replaced by the patient's own bone.

Why bone disappears

Jawbone maintains itself through the chewing stimulus transmitted by tooth roots. When a tooth is lost that stimulus stops and the bone begins to resorb: the loss in the first year accounts for a large share of the total. Gum disease, long-standing infection and the pressure of a removable denture accelerate it.

Types of graft

There are four main groups by source:

  • Autograft: the patient's own bone — the best biological response, needs a second site
  • Xenograft: processed bovine-derived — the most commonly used
  • Allograft: human-derived, from a tissue bank
  • Synthetic: calcium phosphate based, containing no biological source

Protecting at the time of extraction: socket preservation

The most effective approach is not to make up the loss later but to prevent it occurring. Placing a graft into the socket at the same visit largely preserves the bone's dimensions and can remove the need for more extensive procedures such as a sinus lift later. This option should be discussed at every extraction where an implant is planned.

Frequently Asked Questions 17

01

How long does a graft take to become bone?

Three to four months in small defects, six to nine in larger areas. Volume and the blood supply of the site set the timing. Maturation is assessed by radiograph and, where needed, CT; moving to the implant too early puts fusion at risk.
02

Can a graft be rejected?

The materials used are stripped of cellular content, so an immune response is not expected. Failure is usually due to infection, the gum covering the graft opening up, or impaired healing from smoking. All of these are preventable.
03

Do I have to take the graft from my own bone?

No. In most cases ready-made graft materials are sufficient and, needing no second surgical site, are more comfortable for the patient. Your own bone is preferred for very large defects and where the bone has to be reshaped.
04

Will my face swell after a graft?

Swelling is expected, peaks on the second or third day and then subsides. Cold applied at intervals on the first day and warmth on the following days help. Sleeping with your head raised also reduces it. Increasing swelling with fever, however, needs assessment.
05

Does receded gum grow back on its own?

No, lost gum does not return by itself, but that does not mean surgery is always needed. Once the cause is removed the recession usually stops and sensitivity can be managed.
06

Is taking tissue from the palate painful?

The procedure itself is painless under local anaesthesia. The palate donor site is usually the more uncomfortable area afterwards and can be covered with a protective plate; discomfort eases as healing progresses.
07

How do I reach the clinic from here?

Our clinic is in Muratpasa and is reached from Çamyuva (Kemer) by city transport; call for directions or use the map on our contact page.
08

Can I come without an appointment?

In an emergency, yes — you are seen without an appointment for pain, swelling, bleeding, a broken tooth or trauma, and the order is set by how serious the problem is rather than by arrival time. For planned treatment, calling ahead means the dentist, the chair and the time your procedure needs are reserved for you, so you are not kept waiting.
09

Are you open at night and at weekends?

Yes. The clinic has no closing time: it is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and that includes night hours, Saturdays and Sundays, and public holidays. There is no rota to check and no need to ask which day we are on duty. The telephone line is open at the same hours, so you can describe your situation before setting out.
10

I am looking for a dentist in Çamyuva — where should I come?

Our clinic is on Sair Adem Dede Street in Muratpasa and serves the Çamyuva area, open 24/7. Call ahead for planned treatment; walk in for an emergency.
11

How should I plan my appointment coming from Çamyuva?

Tell us how many procedures you need and how much time you have. For patients from Çamyuva we combine as much as possible into one visit.
12

Is there a dental clinic open evenings and weekends near Çamyuva?

Our clinic has no closing time — evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays included. If you work shifts you can set the appointment around your own schedule.
13

Can our family be treated on the same day from Çamyuva?

Yes. Tell us how many are coming and what each needs; appointments are scheduled consecutively so the household is seen in one visit.
14

Which dental problems are most common in the Çamyuva area?

The difference between areas is not the type of problem but when people come. Decay, gum disease and missing teeth are the commonest everywhere.
15

Can I come at night from Çamyuva in an emergency?

Yes, the clinic is open at night as well. Calling as you set out helps in two ways: you receive first-aid guidance on the telephone, and the radiograph and surgery are made ready while you travel, so you are not kept waiting when you arrive. Do not wait until morning if there is swelling spreading across the face, difficulty swallowing or a fever — those signs need to be seen straight away.
16

Does the information on this page apply across Kemer?

The clinical information is the same everywhere; only travel and scheduling differ. You can find your own area's page in our area guide.
17

I had heart valve surgery. Do I need antibiotics before a dental procedure?

Preventive antibiotics before dental procedures are advised for certain cardiac conditions, to stop bacteria entering the bloodstream from infecting the heart lining. This applies to specific risk groups, not every heart patient. Your cardiologist's opinion and surgical report guide the decision, so bring them.
