When Do You Need an Emergency Dentist in Antalya?
Not every complaint requires a midnight visit. Some can wait until morning; others need attention within hours. Knowing the difference prevents unnecessary panic and stops you losing time when it truly matters.
Dental emergencies requiring immediate care
In this group, waiting risks tissue loss, spreading infection or losing the tooth.
- A permanent tooth knocked completely out — the first 30 minutes are critical
- Rapidly growing facial or jaw swelling, especially with fever
- Bleeding that does not stop despite pressure
- Severe toothache that keeps you awake and does not respond to painkillers
- A fractured tooth with exposed pulp (a pink-red point on the fracture surface)
- Jaw locking or inability to open the mouth
Situations that should be seen the same day
This group is not life-threatening but worsens quickly if delayed: a lost filling, a crown that came off, a broken denture, pain on biting and a gum blister.
When to go straight to a hospital emergency department
If swelling extends towards the eyelid, if swallowing or breathing is difficult, if you have a high fever, or if there was loss of consciousness, vomiting or suspected jaw fracture, this goes beyond dentistry — go to the nearest hospital.
What to Do at Home Before You Reach the Emergency Dental Clinic
What you do before arriving can directly affect the outcome. The guidance below follows widely accepted first-aid principles for dental emergencies.
First aid for severe toothache
Keep your head elevated, since lying flat increases blood flow to the head and raises pressure in an inflamed tooth. Apply a cold compress for fifteen minutes on, fifteen off. You may take a painkiller you have used safely before.
What you must never do with toothache
These mistakes are common and make treatment harder.
- Placing a painkiller tablet on the tooth or gum — it causes a chemical burn
- Applying heat — it spreads the infection
- Starting leftover antibiotics without a dentist
- Applying alcohol, cologne or clove oil directly
- Trying to burst an abscess with a needle or by squeezing
The first 30 minutes for a knocked-out tooth
Hold the tooth only by the crown, never the root, where the periodontal ligament cells needed for reattachment are located.
Rinse for no more than ten seconds in clean water or milk without scrubbing. If possible reposition it in its socket and hold it with gauze. Otherwise store it in milk; saline or the patient's own saliva also work. Avoid prolonged tap water.
One exception: a milk tooth is never replanted.
Broken teeth and lost fillings
Keep any fragment in milk or clean water — bonding the original piece gives the most natural result. With a lost filling, keep the area clean and do not fill the gap with gum, cotton or household glue.
Procedures Performed at Our Emergency Dental Clinic
In an emergency the priority is controlling pain and infection rather than finishing treatment. Definitive work is usually completed at a planned appointment.
Panoramic X-ray and diagnosis
Most emergencies need an X-ray for accurate diagnosis, because referred pain is common and the source is not always the tooth the patient points to. Our panoramic unit is available at all hours.
Emergency root canal treatment and pain relief
The most common cause of unbearable pain is irreversible pulpitis, where painkillers fall short because the problem is pressure in a closed space. Opening the pulp chamber releases it and most patients feel relief during the procedure.
Abscess drainage and infection control
The priority is drainage, through the canal or the gum; once pressure drops the pain usually eases quickly. Antibiotics are given in addition when needed, never instead.
Urgent extraction and surgical intervention
Extraction is always the last option and we first assess whether the tooth can be saved. Always tell us about blood thinners, heart valve disease, diabetes, bone medication and pregnancy.
Bleeding control and splinting after trauma
For persistent bleeding we apply correct pressure technique and suture if needed. Loose or replanted teeth are splinted flexibly for a few weeks, with follow-up because root resorption can appear months later.
Finding a Dentist at Night and at Weekends in Antalya
Most dental clinics in Antalya close in the evening and many do not open on Sundays. Unlike pharmacies, dentists have no published duty roster, so options narrow quickly.
Why is toothache more severe at night?
The pulp sits in a closed space; when inflamed it swells with nowhere to expand and the pressure compresses nerve endings. Lying down increases blood flow and raises that pressure further.
Instead of searching for an on-call dentist
The practical approach is to save the number of an always-open clinic before you need it. Our clinic does not work on a rota and has no closing time.
Emergency dental care on public holidays
Public holidays are among the hardest periods: clinics close while sweets and hard nuts increase fractures and lost fillings. We stay open, but please call ahead.
Which Districts and Neighbourhoods Can Reach Us?
Our clinic is on Sair Adem Dede Street in Muratpasa, Antalya. Its central location makes it quick to reach from most of the city.
Muratpasa and surroundings
Lara, Fener, Sirinyali, Guzeloba, Yesilbahce, Bahcelievler, Caglayan, Zerdalilik and Kizilarik are the closest areas, usually only minutes away.
Konyaalti, Kepez, Aksu and Dosemealti
We regularly see patients from Liman, Hurma, Uncali, Arapsuyu and Altinkum in Konyaalti; Varsak, Emek, Ahatli and Fabrikalar in Kepez; and Altintas and Calkaya in Aksu.
Guests coming from hotel districts
We provide service in English for guests staying in Lara, Kundu, Belek and along the Konyaalti coast. You can message us in English on WhatsApp, and we provide a treatment report to take home to your own dentist.
How Is the Cost of Emergency Dental Treatment Determined?
The cost of emergency dental treatment depends on the procedure performed. Two patients with the same complaint may need entirely different treatments.
Health regulations do not permit publishing price lists on websites. After examination and X-ray assessment, the procedure and its cost are explained clearly before treatment begins.
Examination and diagnosis
We listen to your complaint, examine the mouth and take a panoramic X-ray if needed. At the end of this stage we explain which procedure is required and the alternatives.
Travel insurance coverage
Travel insurance may cover emergency dental care depending on your policy. We provide documentation of the treatment for your reimbursement claim.
