Calkaya is one of Aksu's fast-growing residential areas, close to the airport and the hotel belt, with many households working in tourism.

This page deals with a problem common through the season but rarely understood correctly: the wear acidic drinks cause. This is a different process from decay and needs no bacteria — the acid dissolves mineral straight from the enamel surface.

The distinction matters, because preventing decay and preventing erosion are not the same thing. Brushing more often does not help here, and at the wrong moment it increases the loss.

Irregular Eating and Acidic Drinks Through the Season

In a busy season the silent cause of tooth loss is acid wear, not decay.

Why erosion and decay are not the same

In decay the chain is clear: bacteria use sugar, produce acid and the loss is localised. In erosion the acid comes from outside — fizzy or energy drinks, lemon water, or stomach acid reaching the mouth — no bacteria are needed and the loss spreads across whole surfaces. That is why erosion advances for a long time without a cavity: the teeth thin, become translucent at the edges and cold sensitivity appears first.

Why contact time beats volume

Finishing a bottle in ten minutes and stretching it over three hours are not the same risk, even with the same volume: saliva needs time to dilute the acid and carry mineral back. When a drink sits at hand through a long shift it keeps the mouth at a low pH for hours, so the repair never completes. Drinking it with a meal and finishing it quickly lowers the risk without giving anything up.

Practical steps you can keep up in season

  • Finish an acidic drink with a meal and quickly
  • Choose water over a drink sipped through the shift
  • Rinse with water after an acidic drink
  • Wait about half an hour before brushing
  • Use a soft brush and light pressure
  • Sugar-free gum raises saliva flow and buffers acid
  • Tell your dentist if you have reflux symptoms

Getting Here, Booking and Emergencies from Calkaya

Route, booking and emergency arrangements for patients from Calkaya.

Getting here from Calkaya

Çalkaya lies in the Aksu district of Antalya; Aksu is an outlying district near the centre, about 20 kilometres from the clinic. We also see patients from neighbouring areas that share the route from Calkaya, such as Fettahlı, Karaöz, Macun, Yenidumanlar. You can ask for the location on WhatsApp when travelling from Calkaya.

Appointments for Calkaya

If you say you are coming from Çalkaya when you book, procedures are combined and examination, radiographs and treatment are usually completed the same day. As with patients from Aksu generally, appointments for families from Calkaya can be scheduled consecutively.

Emergencies from Calkaya

Coming from Çalkaya at night is quicker than by day once the roads clear; call as you set out and you will receive first-aid guidance on the phone. For patients coming from Dental Clinic in Calkaya, the clinic is open 24/7 and in an emergency the order is set by severity rather than arrival time. For spreading facial swelling, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or toothache with fever, go to the nearest emergency department.

Inflammation Around an Implant (Peri-implantitis)

An implant cannot decay, but the gum and bone around it can become diseased. This is the leading cause of implant loss in the long term, and it is largely preventable.

Two stages, two different outcomes

The distinction determines the outcome of treatment:

  • Peri-implant mucositis: inflammation of the gum only, bone intact — reversible
  • Peri-implantitis: bone loss has begun — it can be halted, but the loss does not return
  • Early sign: bleeding on brushing and redness around the implant
  • Late sign: pus, recession, the implant threads becoming visible

Why it progresses faster than around a natural tooth

The periodontal ligament attaching a natural tooth to bone is rich in blood vessels and defence cells and acts as a buffer. An implant contacts bone directly, with no such buffer. Once inflammation starts, bone loss therefore progresses faster and over a wider area than around a natural tooth. Detecting it early is critical for this reason.

How it is prevented

Daily cleaning must not neglect the area around the implant; an interdental brush is often more effective there than floss. Smoking markedly increases the risk. A prosthesis designed so it can be cleaned, and complete removal of excess cement on fitting, are also decisive; a fragment of cement left under the gum can start inflammation on its own.

Frequently Asked Questions 16

01

Is bleeding around an implant normal?

No — healthy tissue around an implant does not bleed on brushing. Bleeding is the first and often the only sign of inflammation; there is no pain at this stage. Treated at this point the condition fully reverses, so it should not be put off.
02

How is it treated?

First the implant surface is cleaned with dedicated instruments; metal ones are not used because they scratch the surface. Antiseptic application and, if needed, antibiotics are added. Where bone loss has advanced, surgical debridement and, in suitable cases, grafting are used. The outcome depends on the stage at which it is started.
03

How often should it be checked?

At least two reviews a year are advised for implant patients, shortened to every three months in smokers and those with a history of gum disease. At review the peri-implant depth is measured and radiographs are taken at intervals to compare bone levels.
04

Can a lost implant be replaced?

In most cases yes. The implant is removed, the inflamed tissue cleared and the bone left to heal, usually with a graft. A new implant can be placed after a few months. What really matters is whether the cause of the first loss has been addressed.
05

Can I brush right after an acidic drink?

Better not: right after acid contact the outer enamel is softened and brushing scrapes it away. Rinse with water, wait about half an hour, then brush gently with a soft brush.
06

I have no cavities but my teeth are sensitive to cold — why?

Erosion usually advances without cavities: the enamel thins over broad surfaces and the dentine beneath is exposed, so cold sensitivity is often the first complaint.
07

How do I reach the clinic from here?

Our clinic is in Muratpasa and is reached from Çalkaya (Aksu) by city transport; call for directions or use the map on our contact page.
08

Can I come without an appointment?

In an emergency, yes — you are seen without an appointment for pain, swelling, bleeding, a broken tooth or trauma, and the order is set by how serious the problem is rather than by arrival time. For planned treatment, calling ahead means the dentist, the chair and the time your procedure needs are reserved for you, so you are not kept waiting.
09

Are you open at night and at weekends?

Yes. The clinic has no closing time: it is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and that includes night hours, Saturdays and Sundays, and public holidays. There is no rota to check and no need to ask which day we are on duty. The telephone line is open at the same hours, so you can describe your situation before setting out.
10

I am looking for a dentist in Çalkaya — where should I come?

Our clinic is on Sair Adem Dede Street in Muratpasa and serves the Çalkaya area, open 24/7. Call ahead for planned treatment; walk in for an emergency.
11

How should I plan my appointment coming from Çalkaya?

Tell us how many procedures you need and how much time you have. For patients from Çalkaya we combine as much as possible into one visit.
12

Is there a dental clinic open evenings and weekends near Çalkaya?

Our clinic has no closing time — evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays included. If you work shifts you can set the appointment around your own schedule.
13

Can our family be treated on the same day from Çalkaya?

Yes. Tell us how many are coming and what each needs; appointments are scheduled consecutively so the household is seen in one visit.
14

Which dental problems are most common in the Çalkaya area?

The difference between areas is not the type of problem but when people come. Decay, gum disease and missing teeth are the commonest everywhere.
15

Can I come at night from Çalkaya in an emergency?

Yes, the clinic is open at night as well. Calling as you set out helps in two ways: you receive first-aid guidance on the telephone, and the radiograph and surgery are made ready while you travel, so you are not kept waiting when you arrive. Do not wait until morning if there is swelling spreading across the face, difficulty swallowing or a fever — those signs need to be seen straight away.
16

Does the information on this page apply across Aksu?

The clinical information is the same everywhere; only travel and scheduling differ. You can find your own area's page in our area guide.
